Israel - Day 2
We left the Yad-Hashmona Guest House at about 9:00 a.m. after eating a delicious breakfast. This guest house overlooked the spot where the Ark of the Covenant rested for 120 years. We headed into Jerusalem and after dropping off our bags at the Gloria hotel, we spent the rest of the day touring the Old City of Jerusalem. First, we saw the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, which is said to be the traditional site of Jesus' crucifixion, burial and resurrection. We also touched the bedrock of the foundation where the cross would have been placed. Next, we walked along the Old City Wall, which surrounded the city. The newest stone we would have walked on at this time is 500 years old. We stopped for lunch and ate a schwarma, which is one of Mike's favorite meals. We then headed to the Western Wall (Wailing Wall) where Mike was able to walk into a synagogue. Tonight we tried to go to the heart of New Jerusalem to see the festivities since today is Israel's Independence Day (1948), but we did not find the celebration. We weren't successful uploading pictures to this blog, but we will try to do so on Ashley's Facebook page.
